Alcohol in a Jar??

That's right, you heard it! Alcohol in a jar. One of my favourite pubs in Montreal is called "La Distillerie". There are now 3 locations open, but my all time favourite one to go to is on Ontario and Saguinet in the heart of the Quartier Latin in Downtown Montreal.

Mojitos in Mason jars
On my visit back to Montreal for the holidays, I planned a drinking night with a friend of mine on a Monday night. We decided to go to La Distillierie for 10:00pm. You'd think on Monday, it won't be so busy... WRONG. I got there at 10:00pm, waited for my friend to get there walking from the metro (subway) in the freezing cold. I waited 20 minutes for him to get there, and we waited another 20 minutes when he got there and the line STILL did not budge. Some people couldn't do the wait because it was FREEZING outside, and when my toes lost feeling... we decided, we'll go start drinking at Quartier Latin pub beside La Distillerie, and then come back when there is no more line up. This place is busy from Monday to Sunday, and make sure to get there early (9:00pm) to get a seat! If you're going there in the Winter time, make sure you wear some thermal socks, and a really warm jacket. Put those gloves and tuques on too! Wait times for this pub can be from 15 minutes to 1 hour! Trust me, it is worth it. Some people ACTUALLY do wait an hour in the  cold of winter to sit down and have a drink at this trendy, Quebecois pub. It's a tiny little pub, and they are very strict about capacity, but once you get in there, you better make sure you're not the designated driver, OR you get a designated driver, OR you get a cab! If you want to know how big these drinks are, well let me show you...This right here to the right is the size of these Mason jars. It's pretty much almost the size of my head. My all time favourite drink to get over there is their Mojito. They fill half of the jar with Barcadi rum, put some ice in there, add the lime and mint leaves, and give it a splash of carbonated water. Refreshing...!

The pub is pretty loud, and they play some great indie rock tunes, old school 80s jams, and some pop songs. It's a typical Quartier Latin evening where you'll see a mixed crowd of people, from Hipsters, to preps, to students, and well... EVERYONE. There is no dress code for this place, which is GREAT.

There are 3 locations in Montreal:

For all locations, the hours of operation are from 4:00pm - 3:00am, Monday to Sunday.
Price range: $8 - $20 (they don't cheap you out on the alcohol, trust me!)

If you don't want to wait in line at the Quartrier Latin location, you can try the other two locations which hold more capacity. I do suggest the original location though. It's a great atmosphere!

They have a great selection of cocktails, and they aren't all in Mason jars, so if you don't really want a huge drink, you can go for the normal cocktails and martinis. But, I never sell myself short from experiences, so I always go all the way! You can visit their website to check out their whole menu!
